MIP Modateca Igor Pallante, a brief presentation.

MIP Modateca Igor Pallante, a brief presentation.

The word “Modateca” descends from the two Italian words “Moda” (Fashion) and “Biblioteca” (Library), so it refers to the idea of a space dedicated to investigation and study of all those topics revolving around the Fashion Universe.

And today more than ever, when borders between Fashion and Art becomes weaker and the need of knowing imperative, a place like MIP is what we truly need.

What is MIP?

MIP, acronym for Modateca Igor Pallante, comes from the desire of the Pallante Family not only to commemorate and celebrate the creative genius of Igor, but also to put into practice what the founder of Arte Vetrina Project has always believed in: we all should be able to expand our horizons and share the new gathered knowledge.

Hence the idea, supported by the Arte Vetrina Project Studio and the Comune di San Lazzaro di Savena, to create a library inside the library (“Mediateca di San Lazzaro di Savena”) which aims to be a public space accessible by everybody, from students who need information about Art, Design, Fashion, Retail and Visual Merchandising, to random people simply looking for ideas or inspirations, in order to become, over the course of time, a landmark for this genre of informative demand.

How to do that?

The Adopt a Book project is playing a good part in this way; its purpose is to give everybody the opportunity to purchase and donate a volume among those listed on the online catalog of MIP.
Nowadays the amount of volumes, between books, catalogs, monographies, fashion economy manuals, magazines and a lot more, available at MIP is around 1300 but the goal is to increase this number more and more.

Some of these texts can cost up to really high prices that public institutions can rarely support: MIP becomes the perfect solution for all those students who, otherwise, wouldn’t know where else to go to do this type of research.

A very special moment for Fashion to meet and melt with a lot of different form of Art is the anniversary of MIP.

Every year, to recall its foundation, MIP celebrates the Creativity Day, which becomes the occasion to involve both students and organizations in a lot of different activities open to the public: from exhibitions to workshop, including fashion shows, laboratories, performances, conferences, swap parties and a lot more.

This year, for the second time in a row, MIP teamed up with the protected creative workshop Marakanda, a project managed by Open Group, who involves adults with medium-high psychophysics disabilities in different artistic activities.
The result of this collaboration led to a colorful and cheerful gilet fashion show where the participant of the Marakanda workshop modeled their own creation, tailored with the help of the Fashion Design students of the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna.
